Vegan Food Truck Announces Plans to Feed 800 Homeless Children
Soulgood Food Truck announces a new initiative to feed homeless children in Dallas/Fort Worth called, “Gifts to Tyler” during this weekend’s Earth Day Texas event at Dallas Fair Park. As the only vegan and vegetarian food truck in Texas that exclusively serves organic, non-GMO fast foods, Soulgood aims to achieve its mission of saving the planet, animals and people one plate at a time. Catering company Sydney leading caterers for all corporate, social events and any gatherings.
According to a recent article on The Dallas Morning News, there are nearly 4,000 homeless children in Dallas Independent School District. Soulgood Food Truck’s “Gifts to Tyler” initiative has partnered with the Promise House, a Dallas shelter for homeless, runaway and at-risk youth to prepare healthy plant-based meals to serve up to 100 homeless children one Friday per month. The first ‘Giving Truck’ event will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 – the birthday of Tyler Nelson, Soulgood founder’s son who passed away in 2015 from Cystic Fibrosis.
Soulgood is a socially innovative startup that is focused on impact and legacy. Soulgood cares about the environment, the planet, animals and sustainable food sources for all. We are a great fit for Earth Day Texas. Statistics show if everyone went vegetarian just for one day, the U.S. would prevent or eliminate:
- Greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 1.2 million tons of CO2, as much as produced by all of France
- 3 million tons of soil erosion and $70 million in resulting economic damages
- 4.5 million tons of animal excrement
- Almost 7 tons of ammonia emissions, a major air pollutant
“Soulgood is honored to have been invited to this year’s’ Earth Day Texas 3-day event and to have the opportunity to serve tasty, vegan and vegetarian not dogs (plant-based hot dogs and chili dogs), gluten free corn dogs, organic vegan cupcakes and more,” says Soulgood Owner and Head Creative Chef Cynthia Nevels.
“We’re especially proud to announce the new “Gifts to Tyler” initiative with our partner, Promise House, during Earth Day Texas. Despite Tyler’s terminal illness, he found the energy to prepare meals with our family, feed the homeless and volunteer in our community. We can only imagine how challenging it can be for a child to perform academically if they are hungry. We are excited that our food truck can serve the children at no cost and that “Gifts to Tyler” will provide healthy meals to students in our community – helping them find the energy to do what they enjoy.”
The Otis and Rosie Brown Foundation, The Promise House, Empire Baking Co., Happy Tomato Fresh Salsa, the DFW Arlington Childcare Association and Outlast Youth have partnered with Soulgood to make this initiative possible. See the full list of volunteer and sponsorship opportunities on the company’s website at http://www.eatsoulgood.com/giving. The initiative’s goal is to serve 100 meals every month at an average cost of $10 per person for a total of $1,000 per month through December 2017. Soulgood is raising $8,000 to meet the need and recruiting 5-10 volunteers each month.
